This book is full of stories for reading circles and I think this week has been really interesting because I never comment a lot the books I read with other people and I liked to know the different points of view. My favourite story in the book was Callus, the first we read.
I like it because the final is clear but a little bit open, so you can imagine what is going to happen next and also it talked a lot about the feelings of the two main characters and their point of view of the new sitiation that is coming to their house.
The story is about a Chinese woman who is thinking about her life with his husband, she love him and they have a shop together, but the husband is going to marry again, he wanted two wives and he never asked the Chinese woman about her feeling because the Chinese woman musn't talk about it. Finally he leaves the house ready to marry and the Chinese woman stayed there, sad because she loved him.
There is also a big connection of this story with life and is that is refered to polygamy. I think is a critic about the feelings of the woman who are married with a man that has more wives, but I'm not sure.
My favourite passage is: 'She couldn't ask him not to go. People would say that she was wrong even to ask him.' Because at first you don't realize the preassure that she suffers, but finally she didn't tell him.
In this story there are only two main characters and between them, I'd choose the woman. Because I think that he could understand her situation and that she can't talk about her feelings, but he doesn't even care and I don't like that, but he's not a bad person.
With this story you learn and understand more about this different cultures that we don't know a lot.
Reading this I have learned also some new words that I haven't heard.
In my opinion is a very good story that I would recommend because is short, easy to understand, interesting and well-written.
